A Milestone in Climate Actionin Northeast Iceland

Ten municipalities in Northeast Iceland have adopted a joint Regional Climate Strategy, marking a significant step forward for climate action in rural regions.

Through shared targets and a common action plan, the municipalities are working together to accelerate the transition to a climate-neutral future while supporting sustainable regional development and community resilience.

Implementation will be coordinated by SSNE in partnership with the municipalities. A formal cooperation platform has been established, bringing together representatives from all ten municipalities to drive implementation, exchange experiences, and take coordinated action towards shared climate goals.

This collaborative governance structure ensures local ownership, accountability, and long-term commitment across the region.
