Conference in Iceland Marks the Start of the RECET Project
In August 2023, Eimur hosted a conference titled Energy Transition and Municipalities at Hotel KEA. The event was organized in collaboration with Icelandic New Energy, SSNE (Association of Municipalities in Northeast Iceland), and Vestfjarðarstofa, and brought together representatives from municipalities, public institutions, and the energy sector.
The conference served as an important platform to introduce the RECET project and its objectives, with a particular focus on the role of local authorities in driving the clean energy transition. Through presentations and discussions, participants explored how municipalities can actively engage in energy planning and implementation, while also identifying new opportunities linked to the development of energy infrastructure.
A key theme of the event was the potential for municipalities to generate long-term revenue from energy-related projects. Speakers shared insights into different business models and governance structures, highlighting how local ownership and strategic planning can strengthen municipal finances while supporting sustainability goals. The programme also featured inspiring case studies from Samsø, where community-driven energy projects have played a central role in the island’s successful energy transition.
The conference encouraged dialogue, knowledge sharing, and cross-regional learning, reinforcing the importance of collaboration between municipalities, energy agencies, and development organizations. Overall, the event marked an important milestone in raising awareness of the RECET project and strengthening the capacity of Icelandic municipalities to actively participate in the energy transition.
